Argentina World Cup Preview
Argentina comes in to the World Cup with a dynamic offense and they won the tough South American qualifying. They have the 2nd the World Cup and are big favorites to win their group. Since 1990 Argentina has not advanced past the quarterfinals and the main reason is they lack a great team game with all the individual world-class talent they have. That is their weakness this summer and to go all the way they cannot just watch Lionel Messi on offense, as playing as a team is key.
Group Preview
Argentina is in Group F along with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Nigeria, and Iran. Their toughest match is their first one facing Bosnia-Herzegovina, who also has a solid attack, but issues on the back line defense. They take on Iran next and while the Asian squad has a good defense they are very overmatched by all the talent on the Argentina squad. They finish group play against Nigeria, which is another squad that has a good offense, but not a great defense. Argentina beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in a friendly match 2-0 at the end of last year.

Qualifying
While Argentina did not have to face Brazil in the World Cup qualifying process they still came out on top. They already had CONMEBOL qualifying wrapped up when they lost their last match facing Uruguay. Argentina was 5-1-4 and in 4 of their last matches they scored at least 3 goals. However, their defense was not great and they only had 3 clean sheets and conceded 6 goals in their last 3 matches including 3 in their last one.
Strengths and Weaknesses
best overall odds to win
The attack is definitely the strength of Argentina led by, arguably, the best FW in the world in Lionel Messi from Barcelona, Napoli’s Gonzolo Higain, and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero. They are very strong on the center attack and do not get many goals from the wings or through set pieces. The defense is the weakness of the squad and sometimes they rely too much on Lionel Messi for goals and that hurts them when they play teams with a great defense.
