Colombia is playing in their first World Cup since 1998 and while they have high hopes and a very solid squad they have a HUGE injury concern. Star FW Radamel Falcao has a knee injury and his status for this summer is up in the air. The squad was solid in qualifying and they were drawn into one of the weaker World Cup groups, which is why they are the betting favorite to win it.
Group Preview
Colombia was lucky to be drawn into one of the weaker groups in Group C along with Ivory Coast, Japan, and Greece. They will be tested right away in their first match, as they face a Greece squad that has a great defense. This will be a great match up since Colombia has a solid attack. Facing the Ivory Coast they have more talent and while the African nation has a solid midfield Colombia is still a pretty big betting favorite to win the match. Japan is a very technically sound squad, but lacks the world-class talent that Colombia has.

Qualifying
Even though Brazil was not in the South American qualifying since they are the host Colombia was still solid finishing 2nd behind only Argentina. They went 6-2-2 in the qualification process and even played with a draw on the road facing Argentina. They scored at least 3 goals in 3 of their 10 matches, but in their last 3 matches they gave up 6 goals. In qualifying they used a straight up attack and failed to score 1 goal off a corner kick and only 1 goal off a header.
Strengths and Weaknesses
They have the offense, but it will not be nearly as potent if Radamel Falcao cannot go. James Rodriguez from Monaco is a solid young playmaker that has to play well on offense and defense this summer. Pablo Armero from Napoli is a very offensive-minded midfielder that will have to push forward on the attack, especially if main man Falcao cannot play. The defense has their issues, especially on long-range shots on goal and they also are not very good at protecting leads, since they continue to attack.

A pesar de que Brasil no estaba en la fase de clasificación Sudamericana , ya que son el anfitrión Colombia seguía siendo segundo acabado sólido sólo por detrás de Argentina . Se fueron 6-2-2 en el proceso de calificación y hasta jugaron con un empate en el camino hacia Argentina . Anotaron por lo menos 3 goles en 3 de sus 10 partidos , pero en sus últimos 3 partidos se dieron por vencidos 6 goles. En la calificación se utilizó un ataque hacia arriba y no pudo anotar 1 gol en un tiro de esquina y sólo 1 gol un cabezazo .
Fortalezas y debilidades
Tienen la ofensa, pero no va a ser casi tan potente si Radamel Falcao no puede ir. James Rodríguez de Mónaco es un mediapunta joven sólido que tiene que jugar bien en ataque y defensa de este verano. Pablo Armero desde Napoli es un centrocampista muy ofensivo de mente que tiene que empujar hacia adelante en el ataque , sobre todo si el hombre principal Falcao no puede jugar . La defensa tiene sus problemas , especialmente en los tiros de largo alcance a puerta y ellos también no son muy buenos en la protección de los cables , ya que siguen a un ataque.
