Italy World Cup Preview
Italy has many world-class players and a great midfield and they look to forget about their disaster in the 2010 World Cup when they finished last in their group.
They went unbeaten in the qualifying process, but have gone without a win in friendly matches since qualifying for Brazil. They have been drawn into a tough group even though they have the best betting odds to win it. Italy is stacked, once again, but will they implode like they did in 2010?
Group Preview
Italy is in, arguably, the 2nd Rica, and England. They face a tough England team in their first match, which is a great match up in the midfield. In their next match they are the big betting favorite facing Costa Rica, who have the worst overall odds to win the World Cup this summer. In their last group match they face a Uruguay squad that is playing on their home continent and has a great attack.

Qualifying
While Italy did not lose a match in the qualification process they were not overly impressive in one of the weaker groups. The stiffest competition in the group was the Czech Republic and they beat them at home 2-1 and played to a 0-0 draw against them on the road. In their last 2 matches they played to a couple of 2-2 draws against inferior squads and overall their record was 6-0-4. Italy does have a good defense and in their 10 qualifying matches they had 4 clean sheets.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The Italians have a great midfield led by veteran Andrea Pirlo from Juventus and it is a unit the plays great defense and can really set up the attack. GK Gianluigi Buffon from Juventus is another holdover from the 2006 World Cup and having toughest group in Group D along with Uruguay, Costa death with injuries for a couple of seasons a few years back he has come back strong and led Juventus to 3 straight Scudetto titles. The offense is not a great one and while AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli can be one of the best in the world he also is very temperamental and volatile.
