2014 World Cup Overview
As summer approaches, so does start of the 2014 World Cup, which will take place in Brazil for the second time in its 20 years of existence.
Matches will begin on June 12, and end with the World Cup final on July 13, and will be played at 12 stadiums of various sizes, which includes the 78,838 capacity Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
And along with the millions of worldwide fans watching the games, will come the millions of dollars that will change hands, as World Cup handicappers look to cash in on the world’s largest sporting spectacle.
With that, we here at Coppers Picks have decided to take a look ahead at the tournament, in an effort to provide valuable insight, facts, and vital information that handicappers will need in order to fatten their bankroll during this year’s premiere soccer event.
First, it’s important for handicappers to understand the matches and how they are structured.
There are a total of 64 World Cup matches, 48 in the group stage and 16 in the knockout stages, with 32 teams in the group stage arranged into eight groups of four. The teams in each group will play each other once, with the top two teams moving ahead to the subsequent round.
So, finishing at the top of your designated group is a huge advantage for teams, and will help improve their 2014 World Cup betting odds, as it will pit them against the runner-up and possible weaker team in the next round.
With that in mind, there are some attention-grabbing clashes for World Cup betting when looking at the draw for the groups this year.
From a handicapping perspective, group D is probably the most thought-provoking group, with three strong contenders, Uruguay (22/1), England (28/1) and Italy (22/1), all of which are leaders in 2014 World Cup betting odds.

Germany is a close top three favorite (11/2) and is a squad that just keeps getting better each year.
The rest of the field includes Spain, who aim to become the first team since Brazil in 1958 and 1962, and only the third team ever, to win back to back World Cups, and Belgium who could find themselves playing in their first World Cup since 2002
Finally, it’s important for World Cup soccer handicappers to keep in mind that only three teams have ever won a World Cup outside of their own continent — Brazil, Argentina and Spain. Leaving the South American teams being possibly the best option for those who want to bet on World Cup 2014.
