Group A not only has the host in Brazil, but they have the best overall odds to win the World Cup. Mexico and Croatia are also in the group and while each has solid teams each was less than stellar in the qualification process. Cameroon rounds out the group, but they are betting long shot to win it or even make advance to the last 16.

Analysis
Brazil
Brazil has the most World Cups of any country and they are looking to lift their 6th trophy. This is the 2nd time they are the host and back in 1950 they finished 2nd with Uruguay winning. This time around Brazil is stacked with an offense that features up and coming stay Neymar, Hulk, and Fred. However, the defense may be the strength of the squad. While they do not have a superstar Neymar may be that guy if he can lead his country to the World Cup win.
Brazil did not have to go through the qualification process since they are the host, but they have gone undefeated in friendly matches with 4 wins over squads that are playing this summer including Portugal. It also does not need to be said that Brazil will have the home pitch advantage wherever they play.
Mexico
Mexico has a tall order in Brazil and will they play better than they did in barely qualifying for Brazil. They have a legit attack led by Javier Hernandez and while none of the teams are world powers the Mexicans did beat 3 teams in the qualification process that are playing in Brazil. The defense is a concern for a Mexico team that has advanced past the group stage in the last 5 World Cups, but has lost in the round of 16 every time.
Croatia
Croatia did not look good in qualifying and they were a little lucky to draw a pretty weak Iceland team in the continental playoff to qualify for Brazil. Still, Croatia is known as a giant killer, just ask England, and they have a couple of world-class players in Luka Modric and Mario Mandzukic, who is suspended for the first match, which is not good since they face Brazil. The defense was a little shaky in qualifying and that may be the weakness of the squad.
Cameroon
Chelsea FW Samuel Eto’o and Barcelona MF Alex Song lead the Cameroon side, but their offense is not a dynamic one. They only scored 8 goals in 6 matches in qualifying and that was facing much inferior talent. The squad is a physical one and they will have to really play low scoring physical matches to get out of this tough group.
