Can Mexico get over their round of 16 hump? They have advanced out of the group stage in the last 5 World Cup tournaments, but then went on to lose the round of 16 match every single time. They have a good squad this time around and while they are not in the toughest of groups they do have to face Brazil and have the 3rd best betting odds to win it. Their qualifying was less than stellar firing a few head coaches in the process, but the midfield is a good one and they have a great FW in Javier Hernandez from Manchester United.
Group Preview
Mexico is in Group A with Brazil, Croatia, and Cameroon. They face Cameroon in their first match and they will be really fighting an uphill battle if they do not take 3 points away from that match, which they should having a better squad. Facing Brazil in their next match is killer and they already have huge underdog betting odds for it. Facing Croatia in the last match may likely be the big one, as there is a good chance that the winner will be advancing out of the group stage coming in 2nd, but the Croats have the better midfield than Mexico and should the slight betting favorite.

Qualifying
To say that Mexico had a rough time qualifying would be an understatement. They only won 2 of their 10 matches and lost 3 of their last 4. Luckily they were playing in the not-too difficult CONCACAF qualifying and they ended up facing New Zealand in an intercontinental playoff tie. Mexico easily beat the Kiwis 9-3 on aggregate to make it to Brazil. In their last 6 matches they scored a grand total of 3 goals, but they did have a couple of clean sheets with their defense, which saved them.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Javier Hernandez leads the offense, which does have talent, but still struggled to score in the qualifying process. He and Oribe Peralta are the leaders of the attack, which has a lot of pressure on them this summer. They have trouble coming from behind and in qualifying they failed to pick up a single point from a match then they were behind. Villarreal MF Giovani dos Santos is the leader of the midfield and hi play will be key in group play both pushing the attack and dropping back on defense.
